AD's outings - 12/28/07 perch
« on: Dec 23, 2005, 05:36 PM »
Well since I moved down south to work ice fishing doesnt happen except for trips back north.
But I got back up to NY for this week and x-mas.
Been out a few times and have gotten 1 Tiger musky at 28  inches (C&R, legal size is 30, no picture taken)
But have done the best on panfish that I have ever done.    The bite has been on
All three trips so far I have caught a ton of panfish 70+ each trip and only kept a few

Both days of pictures were fish caught by me and Bensmen (my father)  and todays was with my brother also

12/22 -  nailed the perch really well, caught a ton and kept around 20 or so

Seems like the cat must have had a rough day too?

12/23   (today)
Got out today,    my brother caught a very odd colored Bluegill Im thinking it lacked skin pigmentation,   any other ideas?

Really got into more of the gills today, but the perch were still in the same spot as yesterday

Both days the perch were keying on sunfish fry, there stomachs were full of them
The pure highnumber of panfish led to the poor Tiger musky bite Im thinking, so much food for them around they probably arnt activly looking for food (dead and live shinners medium to large size)

Sory but yours are differenet- his is opague it is definarely an uncommon trait and is extremely rare (like all black fish, all red fish or all white fish)

theres names for all these color morphs  as well- the ones you posted are simply different "style" gills

Caught most of them on a gold swedish pimple, kept me busy catching in between checkign tip-ups.

I figured it was jsut an odd trait, that will pop up every once in a while with large populations of fish.    Just thought it was pretty cool.    Ive caught pale sunfish before liek fishkings there, but that one was differetn colored, especially compared to the others of the same species I was pulling out today.     Fish liek that one usually dont make it to adults because they stick out liek a sore thumb to predators.
Forgot to mention my brother got 2 LMB off tip-ups today too but no pictures of them.   One was a real nice 3-4 pounder.    A beauty of a bass the other was barely 12 inches.     Both were C&R of course.
Looks like this will be my last pictures for a while (month or two) gotta head back to work monday, Ill be getting back up for some more ice-fishing.   Im gonna get a keeper Tiger sooner or later.     Ive caught quite a few from 27-29 the past few years,   Id swear thats all the lake holds but I have seen bigger, a lot bigger caught.   Just gotta be there at the right time and place and get lucky.

Wow is all I can say.     What a weekend.    Thanks to Chucker and his family.
Got to fish a smaller lake in upstate NY that we fish for two days each year.
All I can say is that we went thru 6 doz shinners. and used the bait for as many pike as we could.
I can honestly say that we iced 50+ pike/bass this weekend, of coarse only 3 pike were of legal size but it was still a blast.     Flag after flag after flag.

    The two keepers saturday

My brother

The sunset saturday

The nicer fish all weekend, A SMB off a tip-up set for pike

Ben even came out for a bit and got his own sled with a blanket on it

My fingers are sore, Those little hammer handles still have sharp teeth I lipped one at one point.    :cookoo:
Was removing sharp hooks with forzen fingers in the mouth of a sharp toothed pike  :cookoo:

Was still an amazing weekend on the ice.

nice pike those hammer handles do have sharp teeth.

I found that out last month on houghton lake, we caught a ton of em. I couldn't feel my finger tips.
Lipped a couple of em ( Big Mistake ) When my fingers thawed those little cuts burned like hell. Guess that slimey coating isn't the most bacteria free thing.

Took a week off from work and headed back to NY for the holidays and a little ice fishing.
Snuck out on a lake I know of today in CNY area and had so-so luck.    Bait was a bit on the small size for the pickerel with tip-ups so flags wernt popping too quick.     All in all though me and my dad landed 4 perch and 4 pickerel.    3 of the perch and 3 of the pickerel were jigged up with 1 perch and 1 pickerel coming up off of a tip-up.    Smallest perch was 9 and the biggest jsut short of 12.

Thanks all, not going to be able to get out again, jut got out thursday and Friday and that's it.    Heading back south in the AM.   That's the last two years in a row my trips north have been matched with crappy weather and iffy ice.    Oh well there is always next year.
