What should I use in my bait trap?
« on: Oct 22, 2006, 12:45 PM »
I recently got a bait trap and was gonna try to catch some of my own bait for this winter...  I hear dog food and bread works well..   I was wondering what brand everyone uses?  or what works well?  Thanks for the help... ;D

You don't even need real bait.  I use a couple chunks (about 2 inch square) of white styrofoam.  Its an attactant like a flashy lure for fishing, draws the minnows into the trap, and the best part is you never need to change it.  Give it a try it works great, no need for real bait with minnows.   ;)

:tipup:I know of some dealers that catch their own bait to sell use Alpo (come and get it).. and
maybe a piece of bagel. I like the idea of a few styrofoam peanuts also.

Thanks guys,  The dog food I tried didn't puff up much in 16 hours..  I'm gonna try a few of these methods tomorrow,  time to fill the tanks..... ;)

I use Doritos ;D

I have found the best location is right on the bank of a river or stream. I keep it as close to shore as I can possibly can, and still submerge the trap.
