Jigs for Trout
« on: Jan 14, 2019, 10:33 AM »
Hi All,

I am a new to NEK area and have been fishing Magog and Carmi. I primarily jig and have done well catching perch with Hali’s (orange or green) tipped with minnows head. I lucked out on a couple Northerns on tipups with minnows, but have not landed any lakers or other trout yet. Any tips on lures they would better my chances? Also willing to drive out to other water bodies! Thanks!

Tight lines - Jeff

Can't go wrong with a pimple tipped with some waxies. It's what I use in my neck of the woods for brooks and bows

I crush lakers with these:

https://shop.northlandtackle.com/seasonal-tackle/0pen-water-fishing/uv-mimic-minnow/

Primarily Pink, backups are purple and white in the winter, in the largest size 2 3/4". Or these:

Primarily perch, sometimes the rainbow or shiner.

They aren't cheap but the action is amazing and they last a decent amount of time. You can usually find a coupon for Northland. Code Free$10 is always good for $10 off of $40 or more.

Large pimple, use the single hook with a thinned out shiner or smelt tail. While jigging, raise it high and watch your line on the fall.

Easy to remember.  For winter lake trout, white is right!
