marine map app for icefishing
« on: Jan 17, 2019, 06:26 PM »
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cell phone app that shows the water depth and bottom contour of local waterways. Most of the time I am fishing Onieda lake and it doesn't have to be a free app. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lots of threads on these, but my personal preference is Navionics. I think it’s $10 per year or something

Navionics is awesome. And now they have the color options for depth ranges which makes targeting certain depths, breaks, humps, etc. super easy.

This is Shackleton on Oneida with my color ranges.

You can download areas in the app. Works great.

Can anyone elaborate on specifically which navionics app it is?  Possibly post a screenshot of the exact one.?
I ask because the search results in my App Store shows a lot of different versions/options and it’s tough to decipher which is the ‘right one’

How do you get the color ranges? I can’t seem to find that option

Go into the Map Options and turn on Fishing Ranges for SonarCharts and it will give you 5 colors that you can set ranges and names for.

Not sure if I will have enough memory to utilize this app. I have an older Iphone with 16GB of capacity.
Has anyone run into problems loading and using this due to memory or lack of space in their device??
Looking at specs it looks as if 25 megs to a few gigs will be needed to run this app at times....

But don't be fooled into thinking that it's accurate to within a ft. With my FF running both on the ice and in a boat, I have noticed quite a few spots where the terrain is a lot more complicated than the nice smooth contours on Navionics would have you believe. A useful tool, nonetheless, for exploring new areas.
Keep yer stick on the ice!

Tried the navionics app saturday, they start  you out with a free 15 day trial. I was on the north shore out of constantia, and it worked really well, seemed pretty accurate everywhere I was, didn't seem to help me catch any fish but maybe next time.
