Leader length
« on: Jan 16, 2019, 05:46 PM »
Using braid on a few rods and been running about 18" to 20" flourocarbon leader but was curious on what length you guys like to run.

I'm still debating if these VMC/Mustad swivels even helping with line twist.

Thanks for any info....

Pretty much do the same.  18-20" or so.  Barrel swivel attaching it to the braid, and a duolock snap to whatever lure I'm using.  If I'm fishing tungsten, I tie direct.

Depends...if it's a leader, it's usually 18-24" or so.  If it's a top shot, it's gonna be like 15-30' of length.  Just enough for most depth of fishing.

Yes for a very long time...even after they made two revisions and lost all our data from years ago.   ;D

I'm not that active anymore.  Didn't keep all the technical data myself either.

For almost all applications I back most of my reels with braid then I just tie on 30-40 feet of fluoro or mono depending on what that setup is for.

Cheaper just to replace that last bit of line then a whole spool of braid or fluoro every year.

I use braid and Fireline for at least 5 years. Maybe cut off a few feet when I rig the outfits and then after a couple years I turn the line around on the spool and use it for a few more years. Never had an issue with weak and breaking line with the superlines.

I like my leader to be long enough that the knot is on the reel when the fish is thrashing in the hole.  About 5' or so.

Looks like I'm the odd ball. My rod are 36" and I run a 30"-40" leader of P-line HALO which connect to a small Mustad diamond eye swivel tied to fireline crystal. I do like using a mono backing to the spool when using any braid it stops line slipping and saves on line costs.

When I tie a new setup about 18" flouro but after a couple break offs taking the hook out and just re-tie the hook it might get down to as small as 10" before I tie on a new leader

Depends what I'm fishing for. Walleye perch or crappie in stained water, 18-30 inches. Lakers in clear water, 10 feet or so. Harder to see and acts as a shock absorber when using braid.

Spud, throw rope, PFD and stay on top
