I think that if the transducer is below the ice, and you yank it out.  It may catch on the edge of the ice.  Do it enough and the seal where the cord goes into is compromised.
I have never had a problem, you don't yank it out you just lift it out. Been doing it like that for 20+ years.

LOL...seen someone literally chuck their flasher away.   It was a Vexilar though.

Watched a friend literally kick his flasher away from the hole when he hooked a fish. Also a vexilar.

LOL, I don't think you could catch it on the edge of the ice if you tried, the rounded edge is designed not to catch.
