Suggestion: Ice reports by County
« on: Jan 15, 2019, 10:26 AM »
Maybe we should list our profile what county we are from. I changed my profile. Then we could be responsible for posting reports for the PUBLIC lakes in our county. The PA counties are not that large and I know a few guys in my county that I could call or PM for a report. I could even drive to a few local lakes. This would help for early and late ice. We need to help others in our county; it will take a group effort. You can PM me if you need a report from a PUBLIC lake in my county. You can get a list of all the lakes in your county at https://www.lake-link.com/pennsylvania-lakes/
This will work. Check out the report from Tioga County on the PA Reports page from Tackle Shack.

I added my county, because it sounds like a good idea and may help.

As to trying to gather ice reports from others, I know I won't.  Only because some of my friend's "Plenty of Ice" isn't what I consider the least bit safe.  I've also caught them measuring ice thickness with force of will and not a ruler.  I've shown them their 5" is 2".

I talked to a JS Sporting Goods in WB Twp and Paul said he would ask his customers for reports in Luzerne County. Maybe members could get reports from their local bait shop and post them on Ice Shanty. We can't catch them on the couch. ;D

I gave a call up to JC tackle up near Gouldsboro and Brady’s lake and said guys were out on at least 4-5 inches

Great suggestion JMZ.  Sadly, there is no fishable ice in Bucks County but I am happy to update others on ice conditions in my area when/if we have any...

I do like this idea, but I drive to multiple counties throughout the season.  Many days I drive 2 hours from my Centre County home and still report on ice condition.  I just wish people would post actual measured ice and not guessed depth.  Need to carry a tape measure.  Nez

Luzerne County: I saw that kids were playing ice hocker on Lake Silkworth. I can't say for sure but there should be good ice on Harris Pond, Moon Lake, Sylvan Lake. Harveys Lake will probably take time due to the bubblers.
