Cigars While Ice Fishing
« on: Jan 15, 2019, 09:58 AM »
With the water beginning to lock up here in PA and my gear all ready to go, I was wondering what cigars everyone likes to enjoy on the hardwater?

I typically go with the LFD L400 cabinet style oscuro but recently picked up a box of Herrera Esteli Brazilian Maduros and boy are they delish.

So what is your choice smoke?  I would typically say anything with a wooden or plastic tip need not apply but I guess to each there own....
If only God would come down in the form of a man and explain everything to us.

I'm not much of a smoker anymore, quit cigarettes years ago.  Fishing or sitting around the campfire at the campsite is the only time I crave a cigar, but I'm not picky.  I usually get one or two of those foil two packs.  Nothing fruit flavored though.  The swisher blk are decent.  Backwoods sometimes do the trick.  I know the purists balk, but I like them.

My kind of question...My go to is an El Rey del Mundo either in a robusto oscuro or rectangulare square press..I  use to love the Bauza pyramids but they're getting so hard to find and costly. Can't go wrong with most Honduran cigars. Enjoy !!

Done some nice cigars never really got into them. On the ice I use Redman. And no I don’t spit on the ice. Bring a empty soda bottle for the spit and the butts.

I never know what to buy so I dont spend much time looking into it. I do love the way pipe tobacco smells though.

El Rey del Mundo is one of my go to smokes...  not too pricey but a quality smoke.   I just ordered up some Punch Champions and some JR Ultimate for my up coming trip.     I normally tend to shy away from the really large ones for ice trips just because the wind always ends up making them burn funny.  Just smoke two small ones

Those are good too! Get a couple of packs a year! They aren’t easy to find.

I hate cigars that burn my mouth or lips or feel like they're getting "hot".

If you haven't yet, try a Tatiana Classic Night Cap.

So smooth and mellow.

DESCRIPTION
Tatiana Classic Night Cap cigars are truly special smokes...infused with a rich blend of almonds, cocoa and Cafe Arabica, surely pleasing your inner foodie as well. Distinctly aromatic, the flavorings add an exceptionally rich layer to the smooth Dominican tobaccos inside.

So I generally have two categories of cigars with me.....a nice big enjoyable one, like a aroma da Cuba el hefe, or the local shop here gets some nice Madras made from them...they are usually a bit bigger, longer lasting, more expensive variety....and secondly, I'll have my 'fishing cigars', which are the 4 or 5 dollar variety that I dont care if it gets wet, dropped, snot on it, etc etc..sort of disposable....those are usually a custom made for the shop as well....Island Jims are pretty darn good, as are some of the Madura Olivias....Gloria Cubana, etc etc etc....Love having a stogie on the ice.

After signing up for many cigar sampler packs I got hooked on Holt's minis. Can't wait to take this new found habit out on the ice with me.

I quit cigarettes about 3 years ago because my father in law was staying with us and smoked them all every night when I went to bed. Bad habits get the best of me and I still needed some smoke. After trying all of the gas station cigarillos I landed on Dutch fusions. 2 for a buck, medium filler, natural binder, and a real leaf wrapper. Not bad at all for a 50¢ cigar. For “actual” cigars I haven’t had many but I do enjoy an occasional CAO MX2 robusto.

On the ice I usually stick to the Dutch’s though. More often then not I have a large mustache and beard and condensation can soak a stogey. I’d rather ruin the 50¢ cigar.

I'm a fan of the CAOs.  Hard to beat the gold, maduro, and gold maduro for staples.  Don't smoke as many cigars as I used to though.
My Setup:  Otter XL sled on a smitty.  10" Strikemaster Lithium 50 Volt auger.  Clam Bigfoot XL 2000 hub.  Garmin Striker 5 Ice Bundle.
