I'm pretty confident these are just bluegills. They have a few different color patterns they can take. Although sunfish also hydridize a lot in NY so sunfish IDs are not always easy.

How deep were you catching them and was the water stained?

Bluegills, water can determine lighter or darker colors.

Def bluegill...caught many just like it...sometimes stained and/or deepwater and they'll look like that.

bottom picture Looks like a female blue gill adksguy.
Some of you might remember my "chameleon"bull blue gill post from last February. My blue gill had the same very pale lavender color with no markings when it hit the ice. Within 10 minutes of it laying on the ice I could see the color darken and markings start showing....by 15 minutes color was very dark and blue gill markings really stood out.

10 minutes later

after 15 minutes

My boots on some ice... A line down a hole...Some fish on the screen... And a flag in the air !......Winter is Good !!
