Garmin striker 5 ice unit
« on: Sep 22, 2018, 10:49 AM »
Been in the market for another unit for ice fishing / jigging. Was looking at another lowrance but have not liked what ive seen or heard. I have a lowrance that works fine just looking for a new toy with more power.  Does anyone have this unit? Curious how well it marks in graph mode. I dont like flasher mode unless im very shallow targeting panfish.  Ive been talking to a friend who has great things to say about Garmin fish finders. It looks very nice. Has built in GPS too for marking way points.  No maps but navionics will be fine from my cell.

Works fantastic, i own a 5" and a 7" striker plus.  i found the 7" a little big on the genz box so using the 5 on ice and keeping the 7" on the big boat .  great rugged units, 5" and 7" use same mount bracket ....get the ice transducer.  my old lowrance elite 4 is delegated as emergency backup and for when wife goes.  menu much user friendly on Garmin than lowrance

much better than the lowrance i.m.o.  lotta bang for buck, can get on sale 250.00 for the 5".  Been using the 7" daily on ocean all summer.  customer service superb too.   Believe i got the ice transducer for 100.  my buddy was so impressed he bought one and got away using it with the transom mount transducer mounted on piece of wood, wasnt efficient but worked

I used a Helix 5 all last winter.  Loved the GPS and Maps feature. Would last over 12 hours on the lead battery if I kept screen brightness down a bit.
