Sandy Neck Fishing?
« on: Sep 20, 2018, 10:25 AM »
Hello friends to the south (Vermont here)! I am camping with some buddies at sandy neck beach this weekend and am wondering if there are any good fishing opportunities right now. Obviously not for ice fishing, but I didn't know where else to each out. I was thinking of just bringing a heavy rod and casting out into the ocean with a slip sinker rig and worm, but I have no idea what type of fish there are there. I won't be fishing on the way or elsewhere on the cape, so really just wondering if 'beach fishing' is possible or just a waste of time lugging extra stuff 3 miles in. Thanks!!

Most of the guys are still on the summer sight. My Fishfinder.
 Somebody there might help you.

Good call. No one up here uses it, figured no one there did either

Yea prolly getting help on the summer site, but I'll chime in anyway. I used to drive out and hang there all the time. Most folks chunk bait. There are some good spots further down than the campers are usually allowed to go where the tides cut out little sand bars close to shore. Can be nice action. There are definitely fish around! Have fun, Sandy Neck is a blast even though I haven't been in several years now.

The camping spots were awesome and we were the only ones there. Ended up not hiking my rods in and it ended up being really choppy Saturday anyways. Sunday was calmer and on the walk back along shore saw 3 or 4 people fishing. Next time! Definitely going back. I hear it's a bit of a zoo in the summer with all the campers

Yeah summer is crazy but the vibe is right. In addition to many trips in the pickup I did hump everything down the beach one night and camp in the dunes. Didn't get much fishing done though  :P  I used to live local so I got a permit, now I'm in central mass and pretty much never get back there for any fun :-(

The large tides are always wild too since everyone has to hug real tight to the dunes. Definitely been "trapped" down the far end during a high tide before. Oh well more time on the beach ;D
