A buddy from work who's getting back into icefishing asked me to get him in to some walleye,as he had never caught one before.

Picked him up and hit a local lake with walleye. We started getting set up and the flags were flying. It took him about 2 hrs to get his 5 tip-ups set up.  A couple hrs later he caught his first walleye. Man was he so excited. It made my day just to see how pumped up he was to catch a 12" walleye. He didn't care if he caught another one,boy was he in for a surprise. A little while later and one of my lights was up as I went to grab my flag we heard bells from his flag,we had a double going. I got my fish first a 17" and he was screaming as he landed a 27" walleye. I thought he was happy with his first walleye. Wow he was super excited,he says it's something he'll never forget.

What a great afternoon and evening,the weather was perfect and the fish cooperated. We caught 6 different species. We caught pickerel 2 that were 20"+,a bunch of yellow perch,a hand full of slab crappie, a couple lmb, 5 walleye  3 shorts 2 keepers,and a brown trout. All fish were returned to make someone else hopefully as happy as he was. We didn't weigh the big one just got a measurement a couple pics and sent her back.

Beautiful Fish!! Excellent post. Happy to hear it was released to fight another day. I went Sat. Nite and took a skunking. Glad to see you had an awesome time. Congrats!!!

Never caught one myself but that's a beautiful fish...no matter what the species!!! And an eye to boot!!!
Congrats to him and well done by you, putting him on his first walleye!!!

Mookie you are a great friend for putting me on this fish. It truly was an experience I'll never forget. To hold a new species after 36 years of fishing was cool with the 12" one. Man the excitement of the 27" one though is priceless. Hope we get out again soon to see if we can top this day on the ice.
