Good day on the ice
« on: Jan 20, 2018, 07:05 PM »
My son wanted to take a friend ice fishing for the first time today. We decided to avoid the trout lakes and the crowds on the opener, and his friend had never seen a pike, so we headed to a pond a half hour from here. There where only 2 other groups on the lake so we had our run of the place. The bite was hot as soon as the tip ups hit the water, pulling 27 keeper perch and a ton of dinks. I had the suprise of the day when i had something heavy on a perch tip up. Took a while to get the head turned up through the 6" hole on 6# test, but managed to ice a 30" 8.5# pike. Needless to say i think we made a new icefisherman for life today.  ;D

Wasn't sure there were anymore of those toothy critters in that lake, been there a few times in past couple years looking for them to no avail. Nice catch's you got there. Glad to hear you got a new kid into the sport. Good luck to you.

There in there, not the size or numbers they used to be though. I let this one swim to get bigger and make more
