Ice pick question
« on: Dec 26, 2017, 09:34 PM »
So, I got a nice set of picks but they roped together.  No spring cord and I'd like to change that.  I'd also like to attach them somehow to my striker suit.  Kind of the same way the frabill suit is set up.  Any suggestions as to the spring cord and attaching it to the striker suit?  Thanks in advance for the input.

Grab something like this

Take one of the key rings off and thread it through the loops on the front of the coat and figure out some way to attach it at the back of the neck (or somewhere).

Figure out a way to attach it to the picks (drill a hole and get really big rings?).

Those rings could be put right to the picks. But attaching to the coat...idk

I guess depending on the model jacket, but I was envisioning using these:

100% right. I have the predator. But I i have clippers on one and another tool on the other.  I guess I can't have the best of both worlds. Idk.

You're just feeding the line for the picks through those, Should still be able to hook to them with some room to spare.

If not, get a retractable lanyard with a small clip like this one to hook your tools to, and clip it to the rings on the coat. Should give you enough spare room to work with.

How about a small cheap rubber band ...loop through the D-ring and onto/around the pick's handle ..then when needed just grasp and pull breaking the rubber band... its all in the cheap rubber band must be able to break w/o much effort.

Thanks for the ideas fellas. They're all good. If I can get those retractable key chains long enough, I might just use those straight to the pick.

I put the ice picks in my long sleeve thermo under garment.  Run the cord down my arm as I get dress.  Stopping at my wrist.  Easy access.  I fell through the ice several years ago.  All I had to do is pull the pick from the cuff of my sleeve.  Can't loose them because there attached to your body.  It was easy getting back on to the ice using them.

Yes.  that is what I do now.  I run the rope around my back, through the sleeves and they dangle from my wrists.  I don't mind it so much, just wanted to get away from the dangling part.  I feel like they're going to get in the way although they never have.

I run them around my neck before I put on the striker coat and tuck into the top of my bibs with the end sticking up. I can get at them quickly if I go in and they are out of the way.

They work great for leashes and you could modify the length to suite your needs.

Just pick up some paracord at your local hardware shop. It shouldn't be too hard to make a clinch knot to the paracord to the remaining line.

It's also possible to tie a type of knot that pulls out easily under tension. I don't know what it's called and it hard to describe. Maybe someone else knows---I'll try googling it.

Here we go---just tie a whole bunch of these to shorten the rope/line.
