some guys consider 2" as safe ice, others call 3" safe ice. I am not "safe" unless I am standing on at least 4" clear ice. once I drill on 3", I back off and will not approach that area. The word "safe" varies from fisherman to fisherman. I know one pond in Boxford that had 5" clear ice a few days ago when we got a dusting of snow.

There is a dead deer on Pentucket Pond in Georgetown that has had people walk out to check it out.  Probably 100 yards from the shore on the road by the gun club.  I would check the ice to be certain, but I bet there is enough.

I have been sworn to secrecy. don't want to violate that confidence for fear that he won't share other spots with me. Sorry. There is A small pond in town that has been drained and dredged. possible that someone may stock bait in it, come ice out

Is this new?  I don't ice fish there anymore but I fish there in spring and fall and have never seen it closed or a gate for that matter.

Me Thinks lowaccord may be mistaken. If this is the spot you speak of its not plugs.

Last night went on Chadwick. Seems to be 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches of ice covered with 1 1/2 of water and that it covered with 2 inches of snow. Not sure about way out in the middle.

Thanks for the info Dana. I haven't fished Chadwick much over the last few years. Seems like it went down hill for a while. Was that over by the Ridge or lilly pond rd?

That key took me 10+ years to aquire.  Tomorrow were headed there and I'm planning for a 100 fish day. It's on like donkey kong! Homemade beef and pork chilli will be on the menu. 10 hr in the slow cooker it's gonna be warming our souls come midday tomorrow. Good luck to all heading out and be safe!

Got out yesterday for the first time. We didn't make it long. Way to cold without a shack. It was awesome to see 8 inch holes though.

Yeah good to see 8 inches over at Rock this morning. Got a visit from the EPO twice, one for a license check and the other came by a little later and talked for a bit really nice guy. Already knew we had been checked.
