Carry bay
« on: Dec 18, 2017, 09:16 AM »
Hi,

I've never fished Carry bay.  I was wondering where people fishing Carry bay park their cars to get on ice?

Thanks,

There’s no official launch area just park on the side of the road and walk out. However if people keep driving campers out there and tearing up the shore like last year I don’t know how much longer that access will be public
i told myself id be back by 2 i guess i didnt factor in that the fish were biting

Are you talking about the bay at the bridge to go into ny?   If so there is a roadside lot to park.

Yeah, lots of people accessing it right by the little shed.  Tearing up the ground hauling fish houses with wheelers.  But that's the only way to get on.  Be sure to have your paperwork because that's where the state loves to check.

I talked with one of the landowners last summer.  Nice folks.  They are actually taking a risk by letting us use their land for ice fishing access, in terms of liability and insurance.

They're letting it happen under the radar.  I'm even reluctant to talk about it here, but since the cat is out of the bag it seems more important to urge everyone to be respectful and low-impact on their land.

To clarify:  they're not giving explicit permission to use their land for access.  But they're not posting it, either.  (also, They don't want it used in the summer)

That was a new culvert just about 3 years ago. I think the current carries gravel in.

The camp by where everybody parks took a excavator to try and improve their  property and ended up filling in most of that deep pool and most of the culvert with gravel state is going to need to fix it....again

Heard there were dozens of cars at Carry today - anyone have a report?  Looking to poke around there tomorrow for panfish.

I don’t know about dozens of cars.  Didn’t see one actually.  But the ice is a good 8-10 if you’re thinking of driving in it.
Fish on

Hahaha...ok.  That's great news.  I've caught MANY big largemouth there and a few nice smallies from time to time.  Anybody fishing out by the mouth of it or just back in the bay?  I mostly stay away from the the passage side during winter because the current is so strong there.  Never know how the ice is and always have to be careful and spud constantly, but the fish love that moving water.

Bite was pretty good for panfish and largemouth. Have to hole hop to fill a bucket but a surprise 3-4 lb bass is fun. Almost nobody there yesterday. 30 cars on db though.
