Mousies out of the choices given. Nymphs (wigglers) are probobly my favorite overall.

I just can't wrap my mind around using spikes. Must work enough people use them. Personally I like a 1" minnow on my jigs.

All I need is ice and the fish will come.

Over all waxies are my go to bait...but I favor minnows for perch and crappies. I usually have spikes in the mix somewhere.

Try anything...try everything ;D

Sure, here's a picture. They are mayflies in larval stage.

You know, mealworms catch fish and they are easy to obtain if you know how, but I hate the things. All I ever do is rebait seems like. I put 3 maggots on and can fish for awhile usually. Waxies are usually a 2 fish bait. Only know of one place that has mousies so I never use them but my dad loves them. Am going to try them more this year. Minnows are good for perch but slow for crappies until after dark in my experience. So maggots are what I usually use but also some waxies.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

We used spikes on little Mr. Crappie hooks under bobbers this summer a lot.  Was fun when you didn't have the ambition to row or paddle to get to fish.  The spikes we had were real tough, too.  Admittedly the 'gills were tiny, but the spikes lasted an average of six fish before needing replacement!

For perch, usually wax worms until I catch my first fish and then fish eyes which last forever.

Do you think that Perch eyes out fish grubs in general?  I fish mousies and minnows, but I'm looking for different baits to try.

Otis--I haven't used minnies for perch a lot and won't comment there, but I do think eyes outfish grubs...at least for perch.

They all work well. I usually carry one or two types. I think maggots like spikes or eurolarvae are best for smaller ice jigs for panfish. Another bait I think is very underrated is the common nightcrawler. You can pinch of a sliver of crawler the same size as a maggot or mealie, and they wiggle and curl well. Somedays I notice crawler pieces work better than any of the other options, especially for perch, crappie, gills, and smaller trout.
