Fort Whyte?
« on: Mar 22, 2005, 09:31 AM »
I was thinking about heading out to Fort Whyte on Friday.  Does anybody know how the fishing has been there and where the best place to fish would be?  I'm hoping to get some Pike fishing in before the ice melts.
Thanks... Craig. :)

That's right, the Fort Whyte Centre.  I haven't fished there in a long time, but there is fishing there.

The last time I was there, I only caught pikes.  I know there are walleyes in there, and I've been told there are rainbows and char in there too.  I'm not too sure what else is in the water there. :-\

Lake Cargill was the trout lake and it suffered winterkill last winter.  Muir Lake has bass, there is walleye, carp, pike, perch, and probably a few species I am missing.  At this time of year, there seems to be more pike caught than anything.  They had their ice fishing derby on Sunday...I understand there were about 80 folks and something like 10 fish caught.  They aren't huge, but they are fun and there is other stuff to do there if you get tired of fishing.

Soggy, if your Gramps is up to taking a bit of a walk, go to Delta and bring me back a burbot ;D

need2fish, by the sounds of things, it would be more productive going there.  Stocking up on perch and burbot just might be the way to go.  I mentioned Delta to my Gramps and he said he'll get back to me... he's not too sure if he's going to be up to doing the long walk out.

Well, I just spoke to my grandpa... it looks like I'll be heading over to Fort Whyte on Friday morning.  The Delta would have been great, but fishing is fun no matter where you go! :)
