I usually jig up some pretty big gills using a kastmaster tipped with a whole earthworm or a chunk of a nightcrawler, one lake I fish you can't keep up with um like this.

I think bluegills might be just too small for me, I don't know...I like catching perch, but sunfish top out at like 10", do they fight as good as perch? How deep usually? What test line?

Pasquatch, in my opinion bluegills fight harder than perch, and lake george has some big ones in it i catch while fishing for perch, vets park is LOADED with them, you just hafta have what they want  ;) I'm surprised you havent caught any perch fishing, maybe your too deep, right in the bays i usually catch atleast a dozen almost everytime out. They taste great too.

Those are pumpkinseeds at Lake George which don't seem to get as big as bluegills.  Pound for pound bluegills outfight perch anyday.  Nothing like tangling with a hefty 9" gill on 2lb test.
Don't fish for perch often enough I guess... ;D
I like how gills fight in open water,( I've caught a few thousand), but wasn't sure about hardwater...but I guess they fight the same. ;)
If I am going to fis h for gills, I'm going for the dinner table. I just hate to fool around trying to get meat off a 8" fish... ;)

Bluegill fight so much harder than crappie or perch of similar size it isn't funny. Colorado is blessed with several lakes that have bruiser bulls, though the only one I can ice fish most of the gills run 6 - 12", with one pounders fairly common.

im always hapy to catch a mess of gills.  after i catch a few crappie, and perch, i always know when a gill hits.  even the smallest gill feels like a good size perch.  gills stack up against walleye and perch for the best eating fish in my opinion.  just imagine catching a 3 lb gill,

spikes on any tiny teardrop with a dropper line with a size 12 gold aberdeen hook tipped with 1 maggot. the teardrop drops fast and the slow drop of the gold hook will trigger those finiky gills 2 bite. hey it works for me and 2 gills at once is twice the thrill. big dave out.
