Another cusk/winni question...
« on: Jan 22, 2014, 03:33 PM »
I will be doing some ice fishing on Winni come Feb & March. My buddy has a place near the lake in Wolfeboro. We fished out of 19 mile bay last year and found whites and lakers in the area between chase pt. and cow island.  Has anyone ever tried for cusk in that area...  gets to about 60ft deep. If some are around Id like to make a set of cusk lines and give it a try...

pm me if necessary

thanks!

Paul

He found whites? We've been hunting lake whitefish for three years! I would love more info on that!
For cusk late in the season go shallow 12-20 fow and look for cobble or gravel bottoms...
Are you sure they were whitefish? Fish and game said it's been years since a confirmed lake whitefish...

I have never had any luck with cusk IN the bay. Prolly due to lack of rocky bottom. I would like to set traps past the islands when I move my permanent out that way. Anyone else have any insight?

Lots of lakers... Last year I got 4 or more lakers on my cusk lines every night for a week... Lots of cut hooks!

I'll have a better idea in a few weeks myself.  I'm in that same general area and just have not set cusk lines yet.  I have caught some good ones in Melvin bay is past years.  I did see a lot of cusk lines off chase point last weekend.

We heve done O.K. with the cusk there. Nothing big or consistant.  I have had the best luck around mMelvin island. Good luck.

It looks like a small city right now where you are talking..wanted to fish that area last week and there were a ton of shacks right in that area..only a fee cusk lines in 19..basically on the right side as you head out...there were a bunch as you head up to Melvin bay on tbe right hand side by black..hope this helps
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

caught a few little guys one that side but nothing of size, bunch of white perch in 19 mile a lot of times.
got a smally out there once to ..pretty exciting when your fishing tip ups, because if your not on the white perch your lucky to get a flag
