Yeah, kind of glad that open area showed itself again, but wish it didn't open as much as it did.  This morning it was completely covered with snow.  Guaranteed someone would have gone in this weekend if it stayed snow covered.
I love clipboard man

Thought the same ship. The only problem is the wind could cover it with snow.

The north end of the ice near LG Village took a beating form the wind today, it is open water well south of Tea Island. The ice goes just past English Brook and the last 100 yds or more looked pretty shaky, all wet snow.

There are two open areas, the one larger one on the east side north of Hall's Boat; the other one is on the west side about 100 yds out from Shepard Park. There were other smaller holes scattered around that froze later and might have thinner ice, can't see them now.

We all hate it when the state closes something or makes life more miserable but sometimes they have a reason. Yesterday in the evening two nitwits were taking rocks from the riprap on the new boat launch at Million dollar beach and throwing them all over the ice trying to break a hole.  The rocks were put there for a reason and now someone will have to remove them from the beach in the spring. People use your frigging head for more than a hat rack will you.

let's go!!

Let me check with a connection up there.  She fishes it and lives nearby.  I'll ping her today to see about ice conditions.  I'd go next weekend.  7 hour ride one way for me, not terrible.(Although I hate crossing that border)  Lance where's that passport???

Chase88 that's a shame.. if I get there early enough tomorrow I'll chip any rocks out and put them back.  I hate when others make us good guys look bad.

We're ahead of last year. I almost made myself famous last Valentine's day.
Little tidbit about Huddle at first ice...
Keep your butt on the safe side of the islands! I'll wait a week before I fool around down there.
Plenty of you guys know better. Some of us others need to be told or get wet.  :P

I worry about the trout guys this weekend.  :-\

My cage has been rattled man. I've questioned more than half of my own trips on the ice this year.
I know plenty of you guys can do it safe. Some stuff can't be said enough.

Ok so had some friends try to get out deep of MDB, they turned around after hitting multiple spots where the spud went through with one throw.    They got on at a different access point, but it was a lot of the same, one spud and through.   The decided to push it and once they got about 500 yards off shore it got a lil better and went to 2.5" or so with less in places and more in others.   Theres a lot of areas with almost no ice that are covered in heavy slush.   With tonights snow it could be real bad.  If you don't have a spud, a rope, and a buddy with you, I can't recommend it.

I'm on the ice now, be careful! The ice is very inconsistent 1" some places 6" others. If you don't have proper gear and knowledge I highly suggest waiting!

Anyone poking around on the other perch bays?
I'm hoping to fish anything between Bolton and the village on that side this weekend.
I'll report back if someone else doesn't.

oneidas been terrible to me this year or else i wouldnt even be thinking about lake george. Maybe the shad have died off and the bite has picked up but last two times i was there this year there were shad swimming up in my holes they were so thick and in two trips and almost 24 hours of fishing i catch a single keeper eye. a few random perch but nothing that made the drive out there worth it.

part of me is thinking it might be a good day to make the 3.5 hour drive to chaumont bay for some real walleye fishing.
