I know it would be awesome to get some fishing on the king this year, iv been being very optimistic and patient this year,I haven't completely written off lg this we still may be able to get on couple of bays but I'm not holding my breath.seems like when we do get some cold weather the wind comes with it....fingers r crossed though

Not going to happen on LG this year. I would love to jig some lakers up there but im pretty positive its not going to happen by looking at the extended forecast. Nothing cold for 2 weeks at least which brings us to mid feb. March isnt an ice making month for weather. We would need a deep freeze late feburary and thats highly unlikely. On a postive note they started building my house because the warmer weather. Im cool w no ice in exchange for house being done earlier.

Gull Bay is ice free and the launch is accessible. Based on the 10 day forecast this should not change.

Big red I'm with u....as far as being optimistic....I remember '06 like it was yesterday started fishing deep water lakers 1st week in march....had 1 of my best laker years in that short 6 week window we were able to fish the king including 1 day were my buddy and I jigger up 53 lakers between the 2 of us in just 2 hours

the weather man is hardly accurate with tomorrows weather...how is 2-3 weeks away going to be accurate?

you guys can keep dreaming about that deep freeze while im out floating around in my boat.

Think so. Launches in Dunham and Harris bays might open up if weather stays like this.

Don't bother with Dunhams Bay. As of yesterday it was frozen up pretty good and there were two guys there working on the launch.

Thanks guys. Don't want to get crazy talking open water here on IS, but I just installed a trolling plate on my boat. Excited to see how it works. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on them.

Sorry fellows. Don't look like its going freeze this season. Time to start going threw the trolling gear and getting the boat ready!! Full time trolling for the lakers is not far away now. Spring is weeks away now!!!
Clean the tackle boxes out make a couple orders new line on reels hooks on spoons and shine the Christmas tree rigs!!! Lol

FYI, there's plenty of ice to fish on elsewhere if you like that sort of thing

still jigging up plenty of lake trout
