ya true but i hope the night temp go below freezing this week with highs in the 50s
Only picked up four gallons off 26 taps after yesterdays warm weather. Was hoping for more, but we'll see what today brings...
Glad some of you guys are getting decent sap - it was another disappointing day for me. Nine buckets were bone dry, and I only managed five gallons from the other 17. I have a few more taps that I didn't use because I thought I'd have way too much to deal with, but now I think I need to put em in just to have enough to make what I've already promised to give away! I'm going to leave them a bit longer and see what happens but any suggestions from you long time tappers? Did I tap too early (Feb 25) and the holes are already shutting down? Should I pull em and tap different trees? Or maybe ream the 7/16 holes with a 15/32 to freshen them up? What do ya think - after Monday it looks pretty bleak and I want to be able to make the most of it...
Hang tight Ryan, some of your trees just haven't woken up yet, they will Sunday. You might be right about the SHORT season, looks almost tropical next week, bad for sapping, good for open water!
I don't think my trees gave up a drop yesterday. I did put four more new taps in last evening (up to 30 now) - two ran right off the bat, and two were dry. I can't figure it out. I'll be boiling tomorrow and after that I guess I'll just take whatever I can get. A far cry from last year.
8 hrs on the electric stove...... use must work for the power company ::)lol looks good!
Looks good Adam are those qts or pnt ars?
Everyone's stuff looks great! Fired up the new and improved maple machine for the first boil yesterday. Goes a lot faster than last years two pan model (but I was still at it under lights at 10 pm ). Figured the back pans would end up just being preheaters but if everything was just right, all four boiled pretty good! Boiled around 35/40 gallons and will finish it off tonight. Sap was coming fast and furious when I last saw it this morning - looks like a big day. (Image removed from quote.)
