The Premier is a good rod but the cork handle is a little to fat for me, I love the Avids St Croix rods, they have a thin grafite handle the bad news is they don't make them anymore, but I found 4 24 inch UL at a Gander Mt. in Mich. last March.

here is my problem with the premier ice rod, I own a couple and have broke a couple,...I was disapointed in the warrenty as they wanted me to ship them the rod at my cost ($10) as well as pay $10 to have it shipped back...so that's $20, when I can buy a new rod for the same amount of money without the wait....since both rods did not last the season I never bought another, the legends are great though

The legend I bought was made in Vietnam. I was not happy with it.

I have several Avids that I bought last year. They work great. I do not know if the legend series is worth the money.

I have a legend light and like it - was it worth the $50? Probably not - the spring bobbers are very nice - I had a light and bought a Medium right away. the light spring bobber seemed to bounce way too easy even with rat finkees. If ST Croix could sell rod tip ends with the spring bobbers I would gobble them up, I am quite the fan of this spring bobber setup.

I own the 24" UL rod and i love it for panfishing; very sensitive and still has good back bone to it. I like to use this rod for a little bit heavier of lures like a pilkie, frostee spoon, buckshot rattle, etc.
I think the blank on this rod is acutally better then the 24UL St Croix Legend i also own. I will agree that the handle is a little bit thicker then some ice rods out there. For 20 bucks you cant go wrong either...
In fact what i looking towards doing is taking the spring bobber from a legend rod and putting it onto a Premier rod. I like it that much more!

I also own a 24'' legend, and agree the light spring bobber is really light. There is a fair bit of adjustment, but it is really nice for super light jigs, and I do have a medium now, as well. My friend bought his son a Premier and I know he really likes it.

We have a few of the Premiers and love them. No ultra light ice rods will be indestructable. I have caught several small pike on mine while jigging for gills (that was a riot!) and pretty much maxed out the backbone on those. I always have spares on hand for when they finally break. I also really like the HT rods. I think those two are the best for sensitivity I have used.

I had three of them. One broke. And as mentioned, the warranty sucks.
I have two mediums left and I like them. Good for walleye,pike,trout....
