Title: Snow & Access into Mission/Kipp/Four Horns
Post by: KJPFISH on Mar 12, 2018, 08:30 AM
A group of us are planning our annual trip from Calgary, Alberta to the Blackfoot Reserve for big rainbows on Mar. 15. With all of the recent heavy snow and blizzard conditions we are concerned that lake access with a full size 4x4 truck may be impossible. We won't be bringing a snow machine or sled. Any recent access conditions would be most appreciated. Cheers!

Access into Mission was generally okay. The various trails were very rutted, muddy and with water in the numerous low spots. The first day we drove on the ice which was 24"+ thk but we got stuck in a couple of deeper drifts and had to be pulled out by our second truck. The second day we drove into Mission under generally frozen conditions in the morning but came out to very muddy and greasy conditions in the pm. We weren't sure if we were going to get out or not, but we did. The third day the boys tried Kipp and got within about 1/2 mile of the lake before enountering big snow drifts before hiking in. Oh by the way - fishing was great - 6 of caught in excess of 100 the first day (biggest about 8 lbs) and 9 of us caught in excess of 100 on day 2 (biggest about 7.5 lbs). Terrific late winter fishing!!!!
