North Berkshire Ice
« on: Dec 20, 2016, 01:58 PM »
I will be heading back home for Christmas and was wondering if North Berkshire as locked up yet. Haven't been out on Cheshire lake pre Christmas in years. Debating bringing home the traps. Thanks for your help.

Most of the smaller ponds are locked up with anything from 2-6 inches of ice.  I haven't seen or heard anything about the larger bodies of water.  I'd guess that the far northern end of cheshire is fishable but I don't have first hand knowledge.

Ditto what PMaloney said.

I can attest Burnett's Pond (Savoy) and K of C Pond (Plainfield/Hawley) had 4 to 5 inches of ice this past weekend, and presumably have more by now.

Given the lower elevation, larger size and "flow" on Cheshire Lake, I would expect the ice there would be thinner than the others I've just mentioned, but (partly for that reason) I haven't been out on it or checked it out yet.

I believe that Cheshire is close since it has been locked up for a while but I havent personally checked it. I will try to verify its condition in next couple days.
Being on ice is nice but the tug is the drug.

I did a drive-by scouting trip around noon today.Onota had a large party near Thomas Island but nowhere else. Pontoosuc had a few parties in front of the ITAM and nowhere else. Cheshire had a party on second near the factory, a couple behind Bedards and one off the ramp but nowhere else. Hope this helps.
