some big smelt

Got out today on the harbor 5 min drive from my house, overall slow day but still pretty good, was after whitefish and burbot but ended up gettin only smelt...but they were big...heres the keepers, and a gatorade bottle and deer knife for comparison

Man, I wish we had smelt that big in Owasco lake. The biggest we get is about 2-3" :(

Ive never seen smelt that big...I normally eat them whole but you would have to fillet those bad boys :o ;D

Pretty close..average i would say is probably around 9-10 inches, usually get a few smaller ones and a few bigger ones in a day. Biggest ive heard of from the lake was 14" , 12-13 aren't rare.

      Huge! Way bigger than any I've ever caught or netted. Use to buy some real frozen monsters from a bait shop called Bob Whites near Coleman WI and use them for pike bait on tipups.You got a flag with one of those puppies on for bait and it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that it wasn't a hammer handle. They were pretty pricey however around $2.80 a piece if I remember. Bet them monsters of your's eat great. Nice catch.
