Hyrum
« on: Jan 08, 2011, 07:07 PM »
Fished Mantua last night, landed two Bluegills.  Slow evening.  12" solid ice!
Hyrum today, 4-5" of ice, many trout.  They were deeper than normal too.  Fun day. :icefish:

No perch!  Darn it.  A horrible drunk lady on the ice though!  Just laying in the ice.   :cookoo:

Fished it yesterday w/ mixed success.  Was hoping for some bigger perch that had been rumored to have been caught but they ended up being the same old dinks I've become accustomed to this winter.  Fishing wasn't particularly fast, but pretty steady until about 11:00.  On the flip side, I managed to land a couple of 21" browns (on UL gear) which was a bit unexpected.  I know there's nice ones in there, but getting 2 the same day was unusual.  They come through mid-water, so having decent electronics (and believing them) is key.
Ice was 5-7" where I was (off the face of the dam) and had not even a single flake of snow on it - yeah, glad I had cleats.  Edges were ok, but could be marginal depending on where you access.  Water was a bit murky, probably due to all of the recent precip.  Jigging spoons w/ waxworm was best for trout, Jiggin Rap (sz. 2) w/ perch eye worked best for the bottom-hugging perch.  They were deep.  We fished from about 7:30 to 12:30.
