TO EVERYBODY WHO'S COMING UP TO THE HIGHLAND LAKE CONTEST ON SATURDAY 2/18:

Let's try to meet NO LATER THAN 6:00 AM at the registration point, The Sand Beach Bar at Highland Lake, and introduce ourselves.  I'll be wearing my signature Dark Blue snowmoile suit, with "ICEBALLS" on the back.

My suggestion would be that we all fish the same area so we can do our cookout/partying/harassing-each-other thing!!!

I'll be at Sand Beach Bar by 5:30 - 5:45AM

Just another suggestion here regarding hooking up.
Most of us probably have those FRS Walkie Talkie Radios and we should decide on a channel to keep them on for both days.
Alot of us don't know or won't remember each other so this could Break some ice.

I will be at White on Sunday but probably not at Highland on Saturday.

Good luck to all and let me know if you decide on a channel.

Rodger.,
We should be there by 5:50 6:00 .Then on the ice by 6:15. It going to be COLD 24 HI low 11 & windy 20 to 30  on Sat with the wind I might fish inside the cove to brake up the wind. That lake get bad with the wind coming from the big cove.

I've entered King of the Ice the past 3 years. Last year was the first time I entered a fish and stayed for the weigh in. I was very disapointed. It's run by the Sullivan County Conservation Club, but the contest had nothing to do with conservation. To see all those breeder size fish hanging there to die in the sun was a shame. They should try to do something to try to keep the fish alive to be released, like in other fishing contests. My mother in-law lives on the lake and I spend a lot of time fishing it.I've noticed a difference the past few years with the size of the fish being caught. Less and getting smaller.

Excellent points Ravenwolf and my sentiments exactly.
I even find the name of the sponsor rather ironic, not much in the line of conservationists there!
I even wonder if one penny of the proceeds goes back into the lake in the form of fish stocking!
I will not enter this contest because it would break my heart to see a fish that brought me the pleasure of a good fight to be HUNG.

This is the most recent info I have regarding us and getting together.
I will monitor FRS Ch. 7 from my shanty. If I don't answer keep trying.

We plan to park off Rt 17B by the Tavern, don't know the name but it is about a quarter mile past the light on the right and allows some parking to the left of building and access to the lake. If you get to the BBQ you went too far.
Please do not park up in front as he will be open for business and would like customers to have spots there.

Looking forward to meeting up with who ever wants to say Hi.

Just got back from there. It is the Light House, they are closed for the winter and we are fine to park there and enter.
Busters BBQ will have breakfast tent set up at the registration area and be serving food all day. You are also welcome to enter the ice at Busters and park off the raodside anywhere along 17B.

I plan to check the ice either tonight or tomorrow but locals claim it is fine, 8" and snow covered right now. Temps are above normal now, near 50 so the snow will be gone. Rain is expected Friday then getting colder Sat & Sun.
You want to have creepers with you.

No unfortunately I can't since I have to work.  Let me know what you guys catch though, I will probably be back there on my days off next week since it is one of the closest spots with safe ice for me.  I would love to know where the Trout are.  Only caught a bunch of large smallies (oxymoron?) and one pickerel in 20-35 fow.

Just a quick update! All is set and the above info is accurate as far as I know.
IceBalls, for some reason, is locked out of the site and unable to log in.
I have sent direct email to admin to see if he can get fixed.

If anyone needs info, PM me until IceBalls gets back up and working on the site.

Stopped at White Lake today on the way home. 8-9" ice, Water on top and about 55 degrees. Should be fine for Sunday but very slick as a cold front is moving in.
One guy fishing, no fish all day!
Sounds like cold and windy for the contest and around 15-20 degrees with 15-20 MPH winds.
Just about the same as last year!

I was on it yesterday after 60 degrees. About two inches of water! Sure it is still fine but bring your skates.
Temp is going down to single digits tonight and wind is up around 40 -60 MPH right now.

You might want to consider anchoring your shanty and maybe even your A$$ if this keeps up.

I do know for sure the White Lake, King of The Ice Contest is on as planned!

I have not heard from anyone who is planning to show up!
It is going to be bitter cold -5 wind chill and winds 10-20 out of the WNW.

If I don't hear from others pretty quick, I will stay in bed in the morning and scrap fishing this week end altogether.

What a crapty winter, thursday and Friday it was 60 degrees and on Sunday  it will be too cold and windy to even think about fishing at all.
They cancelled the Lake Huntington contest today due to poor ice conditions.
Seems to be going from bad to worse.

Rob45, I have a sneaky feeling you will be alone out there.
I heard the weather report and they claim in the minus temps and 20 MPH winds out of the NW now.
Sent out a bunch of emails with no replies as to who is fishing!

I will be in a warm bed because that lake does not give up enough decent fish to be worth the brutal conditions tomorrow.

ice was about 8in for most of the lake.  there were some thinner spots though.(5in) there were a lot of atvs out on it. turnout was pretty good, most of the lake had fisherman.  wasnt too cold but most ppl had shanty's.  as for the fishing, they landed A LOT of good pickeral and browns.

Thats a fine pearch and glad to here you won a prize catagory.

Wish I had come out but I've been trying to catch a cold here the past couple of days and did not want to help it along by freezing my tail off all day.

Was the wind as bad as it looked from here?

Did you find any of the others who where supposed to show?

Wow if you guys thought the fishing was really good, White Lake must be a very slow lake.  Between three of us we caught one smallie the whole day and did not see much being caught near us.  We picked up and moved once, but to no avail.  It was cold setting up in the morning, but after that it wasn't bad.  A lot of people are probably getting spoiled from the warm winter we have been having and the ice fishing without gloves for most of the year.  Overall, better turnout than I expected.  Glad to see some of you guys getting some fish up at the weigh station.
