Good meeting you yesterday Bryan.  Colder than a Well Digger's Ass! LOL! Got 2 Lakers jigging and one on a tip up, all small 20-25". Good getting out.  FYI, the hill leading down to the lake at Eagle is a snow covered sheet of ice.  Wouldn't attempt it without studs on your wheeler or sled.  A truck was unable to get back up the hill with a trailer.  I hope they are OK.

Nice to see some fish being caught. Hopefully a little rain this afternoon will knock some of the snow down to make the drag out a little easier. We're the perch still in the deeper water? We got them last week as deep at 60ft but they were all small. Good luck

I'll be up tomorrow going to brave the rain. Starting north probably off fowler, looking for smelt and perch jigging and setting up jackers for lakers or pike I haven't decided. If bite is slow going to head down to eagle. Anyone out feel free to say hey. Oh I gotta ask does Paradox Brewery serve food yet?

I was there saturday and went right up that hill like nothing in my silverado. Towing something might be different tho.

its definitely a tricky spot.

I drove down the road halfway yesterday to get my gear and buds.  One guy thought I'd never make it back up the hill..  The look on his face when I drove by not even spinning the tires was priceless.  It's like he was almost rooting for me to fail because he didn't drive down.  It is very icy though.  Since my gear was lighter today I just hiked back up.  Slow bite for lakers jigging.  Tip ups seemed to out fish jiggers today.  :'( I was against tip ups today..
Next time.
The Eagles are awesome out there!

I saw one of the eagles fly over just before dark.
What an awesome sight!

Stopped by for a bit this evening. Wasn't on the ice long but manage one nice fat perch. 13.5" in about 40' of water. I'll definitely be up again this week if I can find the time and it isn't raining. The bald eagles were fun to watch! 3 of them were out there feeding on the deer carcass.

I've never fished Schroon but would really like to get down there this year. I'm up in Plattsburgh. Anyone willing to be a pro-bono guide? Haha. I'd love to get into some trout or perch...

Anyone who's fished smelt there, what's the best day you've had?
Common sense isn't so common.

I haven't quite figured out the ice fishing thing yet. Only caught lakers last year jigging...not a thing on tip ups. I'm too cheap to buy electronic too so I'll just keep winging it. I would like to know what colors/jigs would be good. Had some luck with silver/green PK panic jigs last season on LG for lakers.

If you bite the bullet and buy the electronics it will be worth it. Its like a video game when you get tuned into them. I like white in pimples and tubes... Don't be afraid to experiment I have a couple of other lures that I have used with great success.  Buck shots also work well on some days. Other plastics work also.... sometimes with Lakers I think you can use the just about anything. Some days you have to do a lot of teasing. Those are the days the electronics really pay off. You can read the Lakers mood and try to get them excited enough to hit.  I also throw a treble on top of the pimple. Lakers love to hit a lure on the way down when it is swimming a way from them.

I like the treble hook on the top idea...its a good catch. I did notice the lakers last season would often hit as my jig was dropping back down.
