Helix 5, last foot off bottom?
« on: Feb 28, 2021, 04:00 PM »
Hi,
I have been using. Helix 5 ice G2 all season. Works great overall. I do fish some steep drops and expect some blind zones, but when fishing a flat, I need to reel up a 1/2 crank or so to see the jig. Is this a limitation of the unit? Or a setting issue I can adjust. Thank you

If you're sure it's a flat and you're not losing it in weeds or something about all you can do is turn the gain down.
I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess.

No, from what I have seen even a flasher unit will do the same thing.

Thank you, appreciate the insight. I will try the 15 degree vs 15-21. I leave it running between holes, I hop a lot, will that hurt the unit? If you turn it off, takes too long to restart each time. Thank you

another secret is: If the water your fishing in is 15 feet set bottom depth to 17 feet. Always set bottom depth 2 feet below where the bottom is and never use automatic bottom feature on the finder.. The other thing is bottom depth is shown in two different screen so ensure you set both of them to the same bottom depth.

Set the zoom to x4 and turn the gain down a little. Should see it bounce off bottom unless you've got a silt layer. Then the jig will disappear.
