There is something cool about the looks of awe you get when someone hears you talk about ice fishing.  It's a look of - he is so much more manly than me. :o

Or is it a look of - man, he is even more f'd up than I thought! :wacko: :blink: :cookoo:
Keep the tradition alive - take a kid hunting, trapping and fishing!

i prefer hardwater.  Its more social also (depending on where you go).  one of the reasons we got started ice fishing is because we couldny afford a boat.  But we have a boat now but i still prefer bringing a fish up through a 8" hole and the sight of your feet up in the air as your head hits the ice while you run for a tip up that just popped 8) ::)

In New York, you don't have to choose. Ice and open water year round.

If I had to pick, it would be ice fishing. In the middle of winter, I never wish the ice would melt.
But by about August, when I am REALLY tired of yard work, bugs, sun burn, heat/humidity, ect...
If your only tool is a hammer, all of your problems start looking like nails.
