Is it wrong to take a baby fishing? haha
« on: May 27, 2012, 08:45 PM »
Seriously though...I just found out that I'm having a baby boy in October.  How young is too young?  I've decided to build a hardside shanty to heat up for him, but I didn't know if this is foolish or not.  And I definitely wouldn't bring him on any days too far below freezing..25ish is as low.  Gotta start 'em early though, yeah?

Thanks...not too hard to do both here.  Fishing can be quite slow, and I'm thinking about putting my shack on a two trap limit lake.  I'm real excited for him to be able to do it himself, though that will be a while.  Guess I should start gathering to make his traps! haha

I don't see anything wrong w/taking a baby out @ 1 yr., just pick the warmer days & make a family day so there is always some 1 watching him or her. Congrats on the future arrival.

Having your baby in a warm shelter and out of the elements is really no different than having him at home in a heated house. Babies sleep like 20 some hours a day so he would be sleeping for the most part. I didn't take my kids out until they were older but thats only because I didn't go myself. I don't see anything wrong with it myself but I'm just an ice fishing carpenter.  ;D

Thats great.  ;D As far as too young.... I'm pretty sure the Inuit tribes would see no problem with it. And neither do I!! Do what makes you happy.. as long as it doesn't upset MOM ;)2

I wish they made a carseat that fit in a boat.  Mine is 2 and the wife still will not let me take him out.  Very sad.

Well me and the baby mamma aren't on that great of terms, so I figured I will do as I please with him when I have him.  We will see I suppose.  Either way it's exciting

All 3 of my kids have hunted and fished with me as soon as they could walk. Yes they were summer fishing even earlier. My wife brought a umbrella to keep sun off. Always had a perm on a lake somewhere so they were in a heated area in winter. I was called in to school by my youngest sons 1st grade teacher and was told how great it was that my children were outdoors with me after my son told story of opening day in deer blind having a doe look in blind and you could see her eyelashes, She was that close.  Some people appreciate our kids learning to hunt and fish, Some don't. I see nothing wrong with it.  Beautiful pics guys. Brings back some great memories.   Steve

Congrats on your Wife expecting!
The only problem with taking kids when they're too young is their short attention span.  I didn't want them to be bored or learn to dislike fishing & hunting so I didn't really start them until they were around 4 or 5.  They went a few times before that but only for very short durations.  My Son has been hooked his entire like.  It's great having a little hunting & fishing buddy that is always ready to go and never complains.  I'm sure gonna miss him if his career takes him away from the area.
