Absolutely, those are some gracious pigs, but I like to gloat sometimes, that where I'll be icefishing this comin weekend, all those perch would be too small and have to be release.I'm heading to Lake Bourne this weekend, where the minimm size limit is 16 inches on yellow perch, 10 per day. Lake Miedvie has an 18 inch minimum size limit at 5 per day and the River Plonie and Lake Dabie each have a 14 inch size limit at 10 per day. Hopin to find some good ice on all these assive perch factories. My biggest yellow perch to date has been a 3.5 pounder at 18.5 inches. My guide got on at 21.5 and 5 pounds, an absolute behemouth, and at our baitshop, there is a mount of a 7 pounder on the wall. I'll get a picture up on this post next week of what 15 pounds of perch look like when the bag limit is five, and I've set my goal to nail a 5 pounder this season. If you guys want monster perch, go where I go - the northern Carpatian Mountains and Pomerania. Hey Jaz,Those are awesome. We have them here in upstate NY in the fingerlakes, Oneida, and Lake Ontario bays. I agree you really have to find the right areas to fish and be able to follow them when they move.I spend alot of time in the fall fishing just for the "jacks". I would rather fish for them instead of the walleye's during that time of the year. The action can be crazy and when you get into them you sure can feed alot of hungry people and have a lot of fun.I also think that if they come alot bigger than the ones you caught that it would probably be an expensive trip to go fish for them. It is nice when they are in your backyard.Just for the record what type baits did you use?
PLease post a picture of the 7 pounder i have got to see this
I really enjoy seeing "monster perch." That said, posts like this one usually bring out "one-upsmanship." I am justifiably skeptical of any reports of perch that exceed 16" , and would require a photo(yardstick included) of any reported to be 17" or longer for me to believe it. And one more thing...I am referring to yellow perch(Perca flavescens), NOT the european perch (Perca fluviatilis). I know how much larger P. fluviatilis gets that P. flavescens. So.....anyone who has a photo of a 17"+ yellow perch next to a yardstick, bring it ON!!
No doubts about your enormous perch Taxidermist1!!!! And I like the white belly. It makes her look fatter(LOL). Hey, scroll up to see the whopper Chickenfoot is holding. ANOTHER yellow perch with 2 forked bars! When it rains it pours.Now....about a photo of a 17" yellow perch next to a yardstick....
Taxidermist1, that mount is nothing but pure BAD*SS, love the skoal can addition on the mount lol
O.K. here ya go Perca. 16 1/4 inches and 2.81 lbs. But you know that as you watched me mount her. (Image removed from quote.)Here she is mounted in a glass case. I painted her belly typical white but in retrospect I wish I had not done so. I may pull her and do so. (Image removed from quote.)
THAT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!How much would a mount like that cost?JAZII
Okay, this hard water season, besides that 10lb + pike I'm after, I'm after a slob of a Yellow Perch. I figure some of you guys must have some pics of some giants for me to dream over. My son ( 8 years old ) got one over 2 lbs, but I'm still a jigging! that is if we ever get good ice! ~cube~
15 3/4" and FAT two years ago. I have no idea what a perch that size would weigh.
My largest perch was also 15 3/4" caught about 20 years and believe it or not one was caught just after mine that was 17 3/4" which would be a Michigan record I believe.
A nice female 15 inch perch can go 2 lbs. or just under so a 15 3/4 can be 2 lbs. or more. Michigan record was 21 inches caught years ago I believe.
