my guess is that it is a cross between a  large mouth bass and a perch. ???

NO cannot be a hybred.  That can only happen within the same Genus (ie. Brook trout and Lake trout both are in the Char family, Salvolinus Genus thus you have the splake; or Musky and Northern Pike both in the Esox Genus so you get the Tiger Musky)  The perch is in the Perca Genus and The Bass is in the sunfish Genus (I forget the name... my icthy prof would not be happy here).  Any ways the two could not interbreed.  Sorry if I went on here class for the day is over.

There is a little article in the latest in-fishermen ice fishing mag about blue perch.  The fish in that picture had a blue / silver shimmer to it and didn;t have any strips.  Anyway, the article listed a name and email address of a person who is interested in any pictures of that type of fish.  I dont have the mag with me or I would post the info but I will later.

I thought a blue perch was a walleye hybred thing. I think it's no more than a reg yellow w/ a pigment problem.

just looks like a normal yellow perch with a wierd melanistic phase...happens alot in nature, most dont survive past fry state. (you see alot of this kind of thing at hatcheries)

oh yeah, a splake is a cross between a brook trout and a lake trout

Hey dogfish!! you can cross other genus sometimes - ever hear of a tiger trout?? thats a brook trout and a brown trout hybrid.
