Re; fishing,..Old Wife's tales

I'm colecting some of what I/some think are old wifes tales re: MOSTLY fishing,...now some may be true but I THINK they are OWTs.

Two I can think of,...one fishing and one not,...the fishing one is that LCD's (higher end) are NOT real time (Ie: using one for winters use) I use a Zercom LPG and  its about as real time as I can react to.  And #2 the Pointsettias are poisionous (they aren't)
any one have any others or disagree (be nice)

Wind from the east fish bite the least

Wind from the west fish bite the best

Spitting chewin tobacky on your lure will catch more fish.

A dry lure catches no fish(ohh wait, that one is true)

I know a contingent of fishermen who swear that spraying WD-40 on their fishing lures attracts fish!

Oh yeah another one by bait fishermen (worms) who say after checking their bait,.."No wonder I 'm not catching anything!...the hook was showing!"

Try these:

When wind blows rom north, not fit for man nor beast to go forth. When wind blows from east, fish bit the very least.  When wind blows from south, blows bait into fishes mouth.  When wind blows from west, fishing is at its very best.  Hint - wait until wind blows from southwest.

The fish always bite during the 4 o'clock run.  Usually repeated by someone who has been on ice too long.

Never, repeat never face upwind when you have to go.  This is 100% true all of the time!

Perch never bite at night.

Northern Pike never bite at night.

Walleyes never bite at day.

Bullheads never bite at day.

7 or 8 shots of whiskey while icefishing will keep you warm.

Egg shells down the hole will bring every fish to your hole.

Not a old wives tale but true is,
Egg shells down your hole eliminate the need for a fishfinder. ;)

Wnen i first started out i read this tale some where. Obviously it didn' t work, but with the '' white'' backround on the 12 foot bottom i didn't have to use my bobber. If a fish happened to come along i could see it perfectly and sight fish it ;D

I think that if we talk too much about our wive's tails in the wrong way, we'd be having to stay home and not go ice fishing...

So, when she says, "Does this skirt make me look thin?"... My reply is always the one that she wants to hear, cuz I gotz ta go fishin' and if she's in bad mood I'd be wishin' I was fishin'!

Ohhhhh....wive's tales....

OK.  How about this one:  I caught 30 fish out of this hole once.  If I put my time in this spot, some day I'll catch 30 fish again...

or...

Maybe I'm at the right depth...who needs a flasher?  I can catch just as many without a flasher any day as if I had one...

Hummmm some good ones,..but are we SURE they are old wifes tales (not some truth?) Red at night sailors delight and red in the morning,..sailors warning,..I think thatt has a bit of basis,..esp in the morning,..maybe it depends where in the US you are and the usual march of weather. Anyone think its has some validy?,..also I swear my old banged up ankle hurts more when the barometer drops fast (storm?)
