The other of day I realized that I didn't have a sounder on me which makes togue fishing a little difficult. So after digging around in my back pack I found a plumb bob I made on a lathe in class. I strung a rubber band through the hole for the string and made a half hitch on the hook... worked like a charm. It got me thinking that some of you guys must have had to improvise at some point as well. Lets hear some idea's for "Sounders in a pinch"

There are those that like to use motorized vehicles. I'll stick with the spark plug. ;D

I always have a couple heavy bucktail jigs in my tackle box and have used them a few times.

Been there done that.

Just did the split shout bag thing the other day. Put a bunch of othe stuff in as well

Matt, I'm surprised you don't use the flasher to set traps? Just bait the hook and send it down to the desired depth. I will admit it can be a pain in deeper water.
I've had to use a big bucktail a time or two...
I've caught a rainbow on a drop shot sinker at the end of a sabiki rig.

Why are you carrying a plumb bob in your ice fishing pack?

Why are you carrying a plumb bob in your ice fishing pack?
I was using my back pack from last semester and it was in the bottom..... plus I like to cut my holes plumb ;D

You saw me 😁

Nuts, bolts, adjustable wrench and heavy jigs. Ever wonder where all the sounders you make or buy go? Is there a giant pile of lost sounders somewhere?
-
I once tied some line around a small rock. and would stick the hook under the loop of line. My brother really like the idea. The his mental wheels started to turn and he though a chunk of ice would be even better cause you can find that where ever you fish. It took him a few minutes after tying it on to remember that whole buoyancy thing. ;D
Now I mostly do my deep sounding with the sonar. Bait first and send it to the proper depth, don't need to pull it back up. Sure hope I don't drop that down the hole though :o

a big bolt zip tied to an alligator clip
