Swivels above Buckshot or Raps?
« on: Jan 14, 2013, 06:43 PM »
Anyone using small swivel 2ft or so above lure when jigging eyes?  Put on size 10 spro but not sure it does anything productive, maybe less lure spin

I gave up on the swivels, I couldn't find any that work with 1/4 oz or less lures.

I use one all the time. I use a heavier leader for fish around the hole seems to hold up better.

spro #10 is the smallest swivel i have ever seen and still rated for 35lbs.  How far up do you run your swivel appleye?

Starts at about 16" and gets smaller.  Some are down to 10" now. LOL I guess I should add some line. I use a speed clip which makes it real fast to change lures at prime time. I always have 3 rods rigged and ready in case a fish if off and doesn't like what down there.

I have two rods with braid on them (thus requiring, at least for my OCD, a flouro leader) and one has a swivel one has a knot.  I notice no significant difference between the two.  If anything I like that I can easily reel the knot through the guides.  This allows me to use a longer leader so it lasts longer before I need more flouro.  I have noticed I get some minimal spin with certain baits but I catch fish the same on both outfits with those baits.

Small spro swivel is the way to go. I also use braid with flouro leader. One trip with the aquaview changed me to use swivel. Watched my jig spin and so did the bluegills. Doesnt take much for the fish to wander in and sit and watch the lure spin. Get rid of the spin !

i transferred my trout swivels to ice rigs.  i found that crane swivels are the way to go.  blackbird makes some good swivels.  The reason i like crane swivels is because both sides of the swivel are independant from one another.
