newby needs some pointers

I need some advice. I'm fairly new to fishing the hard water and am having no luck this winter.Me and a buddy have been out several times and no luck. Dec.28 and 29 we spent from 10 am until 5:30 ish on Boyson Res. We were fishing 15 to 50 feet with minnows on bottom, ranging up to about 10 feet. We had a fish finder and scanned a bunch of holes but didn't see many fish.What are we doing wrong

What fish are you trying to target? For me i do a lot better in less than 15ft for eyes. just my two cents
