Hi Will

I know the problem. Was given a swedeish spoon auger years ago when that is all there was. Recently took up ice fishing again (about 3 yrs ago) after a long absence. The first year, I took the spoon off - went to a sharpening shop. The guy did a eat job. Did the same year #2 - it looks sharp, feels sharp - but it won't
cut for nothin'. The edge on those spoon
augers is soooo touchy. My advise - get one of the black
Strikemasters (?) by Mora - even the blue Mora's are
better than futzing w/ a spoon auger any more.

I agree with Jim. After a several year hiatus from icefishing (living in Texas), I was leery of handtwist augers. I have an 8" Lazer that I love. I've gone through 20" of ice in a reasonable time & it cuts like a champ.
Put the spoon augers in a museum & upgrade to a Lazer or a Mora. You'll not regret it !

I was wondering where I can get a new spoon for my auger. My father gave it to me and I thought that I would try it out.

In reply to Will. The best way is without paying anthing out is to get a file and start touching up the edges. Try it out. If it won't cut right then try filing it down so the the angle of the blade points out a little more.
For all of you who do not like spoon augers, I must say that if you were here in Ohio on the farm ponds you would like a spoon auger better. It cuts a cleaner hole faster rather than shave the ice.

maybe better late than never. u.s. line co., westfield mass., sharpens them for a small fee. i have three that i rotate during the course of the season, then in the spring, send to them so they,re sharp for the following season. over the years they,ve lasted and served me well. good luck
