Getting Ready For First Ice
By Brad White -Yankee Outfitters

  Everybody
is wondering just what kind of winter we're going to have this year! It just might be one of those good old - fashion types that you might be icefishing around Thanksgiving time to the end of March! Now hold that thought - I won't even think of the term open winter! Don't you either.

By this time in October I've started checking my rods, reels and tipups, making sure they all in good shape, as well as checking lines for any cuts or nicks to be replaced. My ice auger blades are sharp as a razor, because I've managed not to lose the blade guard to help keep them sharp. There's nothing worse than using an ice auger with dull blades, but replacing them will solve that problem.
