Ice Fishing Rods

ice fishing rod   Short ice rods with small guides make great shanty rods especially when your shanty is heated so your guides don't ice up! Rods with large guides for outside bucket fishing don't ice up your line as fast, so you can try spraying your guides with Pam or try some of the all-purpose antifreeze lubes. When pan fish are on the litebit without using the aid of a spring - bobber, I like using a fiberglass rod with a real flex action in the rod tip in length 15 to 24-inches. Walleye and Northern Pike rods I use are 28 to 36-inches wth a mid-flex action with some backbone. My favorite ice fishing rods are 24 to 28-inch blanks made from Sage and Loomis Flyrod Blanks. You can't beat the strength and sensitivity of these blanks. There is no ice fishing rod made that is indestructable, so treat it with care and common sense, and it will last you a long time. If you're asking yourself "now I wonder what kind of rod I should buy?" I'll give you the same advice I was giving some 30 years ago. Buy what you like and can afford!
