Frozen smelts for pike bait
« on: Jan 11, 2009, 08:22 PM »
I have some friends that went smelt fishing . They caught a few hundred and brought them home to freeze. Is using frozen smelt good for pike bait?  Any tips on using them as bait or how to cook 'em to eat?
Hang out with the kids or go fishing......Can I take the kids out fishing?

Drop a dozen or so in a ziplock bag filled about a quarter full of cod liver oil and chunky garlic you buy in the jar.  Shake and let marinate for a day or so.  Freeze.  Pull out a couple of bags when you are going pike fishing and throw them under the floor heater in your truck on the way.  I just cut them in half and hang em on a hook.

If you are using live shiners or suckers, dip a cotton ball in the marinade and slip it on the hook ahead of the live bait.  Makes a good slick and stanks up the place a bit.

That would be my guess anyway....

My opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked, and it's price competitive. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.
