the odds of catching the culprits are pretty slim and im pretty sure it was probably some neighborhood punks...ive made a couple adjustments to make myself a little more stealth .

lets get back to trapping bait...i have been saying for a long time the black traps arent as good as the galvanized ones and id like to say i have been wrong...after the galv got stolen i put a couple black ones in there place and pulled in 220 out of 2 traps  :o

Steal mine and I will notice!!!

They might not like me to much when I catch them.

How does this trap work, do you have anything that keeps the net open?

I checked my traps this morning. Luckily they were both still there but I only mananged 5 shiners from one trap  ::). I may have to try a few other spots. Here's what the shiners look like from one of the ponds i'm trapping from: I believe these are emeralds.

There is a metal ring that stands up so the net will stay open. I only use it ponds that have alot of cover.

my black ones work just fine too!! although some days a buddy i was trapping with seemed to catch more with his galvies.  who knows, sometimes dog food woorked sometimes it didn't most of the time bread was the ticket.  my only problem with the black ones were the clips,   i had a couple break on me last winter :P

Sometimes I use half black and half galv. and it works better. The cheapest hot dog rolls work the best for me and if I use a bait bag it keeps the bread in the trap and not in the bucket when you dump out the fish.

another good tip...floating bait attracts them but sinking bait gets em in the trap. if you are using dog food or something that eventually absorbs water and sinks, leave the old stuff in there and just add a little fresh stuff when you reset them.

Nick,

I always had better luck with a mix of cat food and dog food at the first pond.  The location I threw my traps at was right out from the culvert.  I often thought of trying at the drainage into the 2nd pond.

For me I think the black wally world traps have way to big a hole unless I'm looking for catfish bait.  I wire on a rubber garden hose gasket on each end to narrow them down.  I do prefer the Gee galvanized ones and if their to big you can just bend them in a little.  Bait with cat or dog food in a mesh bag.
