Makes me wonder if Clear Lake can support 3 bait shops, that seems a bit excessive.

Right now there is great momentum, hundreds of people on the lake yesterday. I think there is enough to sustain 3 right now, but could drop off quickly.  I think the bait shop business is tough enough without bashing one or the other.

Had a rough couple days. Was in 16fow and had no luck. Noticed everyone is in shallow for the most part. Why would that be at this time of year?
Anyone else having the same outcome?

Fish can be shallow any time of the year. Caught them in as little as 2 fow in dead of winter.

Clear lake has changed in many ways over the years....

Mostly for the good!!! We have seen a huge increase in vegetation in the past 5 years. This is due to several factors, dnr water quality projects, zebra mussels, low water from drought a few years ago all play a part. The dredge project probably having the largest impact. Helping with water quality and altering the location of fish.

It has been exciting for me,as an angler, I appreciate the challenge to learn new techniques and locate the fish in their ever changing lake.

The massive amount of weeds that have appeared in 5ft and less. Would be a great reason to fish shallower than we are accustomed. I found this to be true all summer as well. The fish are with the food, that happens to be ultra shallow, right now.

I don't claim to know everything about fishing. Hell, I learn more about it everyday, that's the excitement of it all!! Mostly from these young anglers coming up who aren't stuck in their ways.....

Thanks and good luck!!

Hopefully the bite is good again this year for the yellow bass bonanza! 3rd year for me, hoping to make it to top 25 this year!

A lot of fishing goes on at the West end of the lake so it will be nice to have the Dome open again.

I left with 59 Friday, 70 yesterday and 163 today. Fishing 7-9fow away from the crowd. Took a lot of drilling to find fish.

Things that have changed on Clear Lake since I started fishing it on occasion in the late 1990s. Most of this did happen after the dredging:

A LOT fewer bullheads today than in 1999.

More crappie and perch now. I've even heard rumors of people catching decent bluegill on CL.

The best ice-fishing moved from the east end around the island to the western side of the lake where the dredging was done.

What hasn't changed:

Lots of 13.9" walleye, and billions of yellow bass.

Why wouldn't the Island area still be decent, or the east end?

Yes they're good eating. I give most of mine away or throw big fish frys just because of the fact I can only eat so many per week and I'm cleaning 10x  as many on the weekends lol. I prefer them deep fried with a crunchier/seasoned breading lile Andys. Always put them in salt water over night.

bullheads next to none existence thanks to state stocking flatheads  bullheads used to be one of major food supplies for walleyes
