Favorite Jig.
« on: Dec 04, 2003, 09:46 PM »
Hey guys,

I was just wondering what you guys use/your favorite jig. Also anyone try the Northland Gypsi jigs? Just looking for a first year crappie novice.

Out of the 500 favorite jigs I use, my goto jig would be a Micro jig in the 1/256 ounce.  Very good for gills and crappie.

OH NO, I have Jig-a-nitis!  Very deadly disease!!!

Northland perch eye has been kind to me.  Any jig will catch fish....some just catch more than others.

Believe it or not -- as the season drags on -- I like to fish the suspended ones with a small perch colored jigging rapala -- the constant movement gets them going -- early and mid season -- flouro-green fatboy with minnow
Does not play well with others

to me a simple tear drop works the best tipped with a waxie or a small minnow

Jigging Rapala

I agree with emptyhanded, the smallest jigging rapala, the #2, is a great lure for icing crappies.
I tip one of hooks on the treble with a tiny sliver of nightcralwer, and fish the rapala fairly slow. Just lift and fall, and pause and add jiggles for about 20 seconds.
If this doesn't work, I like a small, 1/32 ounce custom jigs and spins demon tipped with a waxworm.
Politically incorrect, and proud of it.

My go-to has to be a teardrop tipped w/ a grub. I am looking forward to trying out some nuclear ants this winter, if we ever get ice in NY.

My all time go-to jig for night bite crappies is a #10 green glow rat finkee tipped with a small, lively fat head minnow.  I normally hold the jig right above the tops of the weeds with a small thill bobber.  Nothing beats the sight of that bobber going down   ;D

I use the smallest Sewdish Pimple I can find. Also, I remove the Treble hook and replace it with a single tipped with a bit of worm. Works great for me.

For me the old reliable is a small chart swedish pimple. Most of the time you just have to find the right jigging action to get them to bite. When I think a smaller bait is needed I hook a dropper chain onto the pimp.
