Ridgid Cordless Drill deal- $79 5/3/17
« on: May 03, 2017, 06:13 PM »
Home Depot has a good deal on the brushless, cordless, 1/2 inch drill. If you register, you get lifetime warranty including the batteries. That makes it a good value compared with other drills.

that's the homeowners model, pretty much the same one I got. It's ok for pushing a 6" drill but you gotta get better batteries. That one comes with one 1.5 ah battery which is useless. It's ok for early ice but once it gets thicker than 6" the battery won't last 4 holes. They sell a 2 pack of 4ah batteries for $100. That's what I ended up doing.

it's also only 500 inch pounds. you get what you pay for.
the kit you want from ridgid is 280$. it has 700 inch pounds and two 4 amp batteries included. all life time warranted. when buying ridgid batteries out side of a kit, they only have 3 year warranty on them. don't forget to register your tools right away to get the lsa. you can return them with-in 90 days even if you already registered them.

you can return any tool(s) back to home depot hassle free. so if you did buy this kit, you can get all of your money back. they only ask if any thing is wrong with it/them.

Will it push an 8 inch blade
maybe with clams gear box they don't sell any more lol. on ebay you can buy a gear box/handle for 80$ that is ready for a drill and chain drive instead of direct drive that should be able to turn the 8 inch. with only 1.5 amp batteries it won't turn for long.

looks like it went down to 75$

I use a 4.5 inch nils for hole hopping, and it goes pretty easy. I agree the larger batteries are better, but I can get 40 holes on the 2 A-H. My biggest issue is when it is too cold, it starts and stops until you get the battery warm.

100$ more gets the 700 inch pound and slightly larger batteries and choice of free batteries or tools, so you can get two 4 amp batteries free or one 5 amp battery free or any one tool free.

here's 30$ off their best drill kit (the 279.99$ kit) and it comes with two 4 amp batteries that will be life time warranted when you register the kit. they are tossing in their 2200 inch pound 1/4 impact driver for free.

not sure. i have that drill but i don't have the 8" auger. i use 6" and 4", but mostly 6", both are lazers. i'd like to try and use a 7", but the 6" does what i need it to do.

if i were to use a set up like that i would try it with a less aggressive auger like the nills. i know the lazer would be harder on it.

if you want a gear box that will work on it, use the ice kicker 2 for 75$. with this setup you can buy a 8" auger and know it will cut with no problem. it should be a 2 to 1 gear ratio and industrial chain drive.

Not if it doesn't do the job satisfactorily.   ;D
What are Rigid batteries performance like in the cold?  Big issue with many lithium batteries.  No experience with RIgid tools.  I know that Dewalt

I have a smaller Ridgid. 525 in/lbs of torque. It will turn a 6" auger through a ft and a half of ice with no problem. And the Ridgid batteries have given me no trouble. I have a pair of 4ah batteries, drilled lots of holes and have yet to drain one in a days worth of drilling holes in ice. Even when I'm drillin holes for buddies. I don't do a thing to keep them warm. I leave it out in the cold and it just drills holes without a problem.

Good to know. I've had excellent luck with my Milwakie.

yep, my little ridgid fuego is pretty much at the bottom of the acceptible range. I'd rather have one of those gen5x drills but this one is still going after 3 years. I don't have a warranty on it since it was purchased as a reconditioned tool. Since the batteries are still in great shape ( one hasn't even been used yet ) I would probably get a ridgid bare tool to replace this one when it craps out.
