Ice fishing April 8th!
« on: Apr 09, 2017, 07:00 PM »
Made it out on the ice again today. 16" of ice!  Slow day, I only managed 2 yellow perch but this made 5 months in a row of fish through the ice and if jigging smelt count, no skunk all season!!

You must have had to use planks to get out off shore? I was going to take and drag my aluminum canoe along to help get out from shore, But Firewood detail prevailed  and I put my Jig sticks away for the summer.

  • Have you ever had to jig your scoop back up?

Now that's putting in a full season Josh!
A week ago I flew over a bunch of lakes in a Cessna  - mainly the Sebago and Auburn area.
There were only a few that looked like they were ready to go out.

You have a nice freezer of fillets to get you by till the boatin' begins?  :D

Shoreline was solid(although not for long). Walked right on. No fillets in the freezer!  I put the big batches in the smoker(they don't last long) and the small batches we ate right up. I am so busy with work in the summer I don't make it out open water so I'm done eating fish till next winter!

5 months with no skunks is pretty good.  You had a good season, and caught some quality fish along the way.

Its crazy, I fished in Winthrop yesterday morning (April 9th) and had to take a large step to get on the ice but pulled the jet sled on right behind me, and there was a good 12" of solid ice and about 6" of junk ice on top of that.  I caught 5 Lg mouth, and 3 pickerel all by 11a.  These next two days should do a number on the shores.

I just got off from a pond in Frankiln County. Ice was at least 30 inches everywhere I drilled. It was messy because the snow on top of the ice is melting causing more water to run into my holes than I have ever seen. A few had whirlpools that were strong enough to sink the float for the transducer. I'm hoping most of the water drains through the ice overnight. Standing in ankle deep ice water takes some of the fun way from fishing.
