No Smelt?!

Looking for Smelt for bait this morning. Aj's, hole in the wall and Martels is all out. Just a heads up for anyone trying to fish this morning or soon after.

When I talked to other fisherman at the gathering most of them said that the bait dealers are shutting down. I bought the last two dozen mediums at my guys place last Friday. Down to eggs, worms and power bait.

I got the same information from a wholesaler when looking for bait last Monday, that most of his customers were shutting down for a while.

I was able to find some at the Newfound Trading post yesterday, but didn't look like he had much. He did say he keeps smelt all year however, but I would call first.

Ya I couldn't find any live bait period in the wolfeboro area yesterday. Tried jigging and had no luck. Was beautiful day. Tough walking though

Yup I was at AJs at six this morning, and the gentlemen said they had lost a ton of smelt from a bad shipment. I was excited to hear they will be getting more.

My bait guy said that smelt will breed in the holding tank then die. I never heard of that before.

For anyone who is still in need of bait....
If traveling works for you, I have 12 to 15 dozen shiners I want to give away.

I want to shut down my tank within a week.
Hate to toss em, but I will.
