Yes or No?
« on: Mar 17, 2017, 10:29 AM »
hey guys,

Checked a pond last night, was gonna go today but all the talk kept me from going, and no one could go with me.

Top was some snow and slush, then 3 inches of that weak white ice, but under that in the 3 holes I chipped was 5-6 inches of black ice. Normally I wouldn't think twice and I'd be chasing flags instead of typing, but not in the mood for an ice water bath.

Yes or No, would you have gone?
Someone told me ice fishing was too good to be true. I said, what's the catch?

5" black with 3" white?  Absolutely yes!  No brainer for me, but the question is what do you feel comfortable on?  ALWAYS spud as you go on new ice.

Black or clear ice if the strongest ice, and with there being 5 or 6 inches I would've fished it without a second thought.

Yup, 5 inches black ice is plenty safe  for me!

YES, but definitely continue to be cautious and check the ice often (just to be sure).

I would be fishing it right now for sure. That's better than what I will be on tomorrow. That's 5 for yes.
Just add water.

Heck yes. If its close by Paul send me a pm. Can't travel far because I have my daughter but if my son can sit with her for a few hours I'd love to try out those new traps ;)

I probably would fish it but I'm still recovering from a frozen hell SNOWPOCALYPTIC ride home from Montana. That ride really kicked my arse! Totalling 52 hours with the blizzard and 2835 miles total.

Glad to see that you and the missus made it back intact.

Yikes, that's a hellacious drive for sure.  Glad to hear you made it back in one piece.

Thanks guys! It was an experience to say the least and NOT SOMETHING I wish to repeat or suggest anyone ever attempt!!!  I'll put up a post titled A SNOWPOCALYPTIC DRIVE THROUGH A "STELLA BLIZZARD"  my story of a ride through a frozen hell!

I'm the biggest chicken I know, and make no apologies for it.  I put my stuff away weeks ago and haven't regretted it. For those that still go out, I applaud you and hope you are safe, but I am amping up for spring fishing and am ready for fishing in my canoe. Ice fishing was fun for me this year, but I'm ready to get on open water.
In it for the fight.  Catch and Release
